On 15 May 1949 the late

Metropolitan of Demetrias

Ioakeim laid the foundations to our Holy Church. 56 years later it adorns the city of Nea Ionia.

The extraordinarily  well-kept church court yard serves as a place for recreation, strolling around, and simply enjoying the beauty of the environment.

The church's icon paintings were begun in 1969, by Αpostolos Filippou, the well-known and acclaimed icon painter. Unfortunately, however, he passed away in 1972.

From then on, the equally acclaimed Zacharias Karafergias continued the former's work and painted all the icons of the rest of the church.

The interior of the Church is 97% filled with icon paintings.
